Expectations of God

Expectations of God

Following up on what I wrote yesterday, I want to ask: what are your expectations of God? Do you picture Him sitting in heaven, waiting to punish you if you make a mistake? Or do you see Him as a loving Father who wants to provide and take care of you? It’s safe to say that at some point, we’ve all felt like God has let us down. Life is full of disappointments, and it’s easy to place the blame on Him.

But has that hurt robbed you of the gift of expectancy? Do you find yourself wondering what bad thing will happen next, rather than looking for signs of God’s goodness?

Everyone goes through hardships. Pain is an inevitable part of life. What I want to encourage you to do is not to let that pain harden your heart. We won’t always understand why things happen, and honestly, when we get to heaven, those answers may not even matter. What I do know is that God can and will redeem your pain for His glory. I may not know what that redemption looks like yet, but I trust Him.

Don’t let your hurts and hardships distort your view of God. Don’t let them create distrust toward the One who created you and loves you beyond measure.

Our world is hurting, and God has placed gifts inside of you that can help bring healing to those who are wounded. But if you allow your heart to become hard and bitter, you won’t use those gifts. Soften your heart to God, and start expecting to see His goodness in your life. Look for it in the simple things. Write them down so you don’t forget. No matter what your circumstances are, God is still good.
