Times of Transition
Times of transition can be very painful, but they can lead to new, beautiful things. If you have given birth, you can understand what I am talking about. Think about being pregnant. It is not easy, but when the time of transition comes, when you are actually giving birth, that is HARD. Without this time of transition, you will not have new life. Throughout our lives, we will all go through many times of transition. None may be as physically challenging as childbirth, but they can be emotionally hard because the future is unknown. The time from being single to being married, from college graduation to having to be out in the workforce with a career, from having children at home to having an empty nest, from being married to being divorced. All of these phases require transition.
In each and every one of our lives there are stages. Endings, Transitions, New Beginnings. You can’t skip any of these. We all go through these stages many times, and every time they hurt. How great would it be to go from Ending to New Beginning and be able to skip the Transition phase? We can’t - I have tired!
It is during these times of transition your resolve is challenged. Should I go back to what just ended - move back home instead of going to college, go back to your old relationship that was not healthy just because it was familiar? If the ending was our decision we question its validity. If it was not our decision we question God. Yes, times of transition are very hard. We have to get comfortable with being uncomfortable. The familiar is easy; sitting with our feelings during times of transition is hard.
I challenge you today to think about the times of transition in your life. How did you get through them?
