Protection From Unseen Danger

Protection From Unseen Dangers

Yesterday, after a long day at work, I was doing some yard work when I noticed something unsettling: a snake swimming in my pool. Now, I don’t know about you, but snakes are not exactly my favorite creatures. In fact, I tend to avoid them when possible. But I knew I had to get it out of the pool, and fast. I believe it was a water moccasin, which added to my concern. Leaving it there wasn’t an option—sooner or later, I’d find it again in the skimmer basket, and it would likely be both scared and aggressive.

As I stood there, unsure of my next move, I noticed my faithful cat, Princess, lounging nearby, completely unaware of the danger just a few feet away. Princess, in her innocent curiosity, would likely approach the snake, oblivious to the threat it posed. She might even think it was something to play with. But I knew the snake wouldn’t hesitate to strike if it felt threatened, and that would lead to a far worse situation.

It was my job was to protect Princess from this hidden danger. She didn’t understand the risk, nor did she like it when I moved her away. But it was necessary to keep her safe, even if she didn’t realize it.

This situation made me reflect on how often God protects us from dangers we can’t see. How many times has God intervened on our behalf, shielding us from harm we never even knew existed? How often do we find ourselves frustrated when God moves us out of a situation or relationship, when we didn’t see the danger lurking ahead?

Just like Princess, we don’t always understand the reason behind the changes, but in hindsight, we often see the wisdom in them. Even when the rationale isn’t clear, trust that God knows what is best for you and is actively working on your behalf.
