Solitude: A Necessity for Clarity
Solitude: A Necessity for Clarity
What comes to mind when you hear the word “solitude”? Loneliness? Isolation? For many, solitude can have a negative connotation, yet it’s something we all need in order to resist burnout, clear our minds, and think more clearly.
Even when we’re alone, we often fill the space with noise—whether it’s the television, the radio, or scrolling through our phones. But when was the last time you truly experienced solitude? A time when you sat quietly, without distractions, and allowed your mind to wander freely?
In our busy lives, we rarely take a moment to reflect on our day, savor good memories, or even pause to enjoy the moment we’re in. We rush from one task to the next, often without fully engaging in the experiences. We check off our to-do lists, but are we present while we’re completing the activity? Are we giving our full attention to those around us, or are we distracted by our phones?
Even if it’s just for a few minutes, I encourage you to carve out some time each day for true solitude. Turn off your phone, step away from distractions, and take a few deep breaths. Let your mind wander. For those who, like me, feel the constant need to be productive, it might be reassuring to know that taking time to reset can actually make you more productive in the long run.
