Paralyzed by Indecision
Paralyzed by Indecision
We live in a world where information is constantly at our fingertips. While this can be empowering, it also presents a problem: too much information can be overwhelming—especially when it’s contradictory. A quick Google search on any topic will likely give you conflicting advice, leaving you feeling more confused than when you started.
Too much information can be paralyzing. For example, I’ve been trying to figure out the best exercises to do as I age. I’ve read that I need to weight train, do cardio, work on balance, strengthen my core, eat more protein, and ensure I get enough fiber. It’s a lot to take in, and it can easily become overwhelming.
So, what do you do when you’re faced with so much information that you feel stuck?
I’ve learned to take the information I have and do the best I can with what I know now. Right now, I know weight training is important, so I’ll start there. I can add other things as I go. The key to making any decision is to get started. If you never start, you can’t make progress. But once you’re moving forward, you can adjust your course along the way. You can add or remove things as needed. Mistakes are a part of life, and they’re part of the learning process.
Stop thinking you have to make the perfect decision. I pray about my decisions because I want to be in God’s perfect will. But I’ve also learned that sometimes I try so hard to make the perfect decision that I end up making no decision at all. And not deciding is its own decision—it gives your power away and allows someone else to decide for you.
What decision are you struggling with today? Gather the facts, take a step forward, and trust that you can adjust as needed. The important thing is to move forward into your future.
