Time, Your Most Valuable Asset
When you think about it, time is your only non-renewable resource. You can make more money, buy a new house and a new car, but you cannot buy more time - so how you spend it is very important. Think about this - if you waste twenty dollars on something, it’s not a big deal. But if you waste twenty years you cannot get it back. Twenty dollars to twenty years is a bit extreme, but in the moment we feel the loss of money more than we feel the loss of our time. If I had used the example of wasting twenty dollars to wasting twenty minutes, many would have said, “It’s only twenty minutes.” But think about it from the larger perspective- twenty minutes scrolling on your phone in the morning instead of having a conversation with your child -what is the true cost of that lost time? Please don’t think I am trying to make you feel guilty - as I write this I am talking to myself.
I want to be a wise steward of what God has given me, and that includes my time. With every choice I make, whether I choose to hit snooze and skip the gym, or have an extra glass of wine instead of reading a book in the evening, I am shaping my future. There are times we need more sleep, times we may need that glass of wine - but make a conscious choice. We don’t know how much time we have left. Let’s use our most valuable asset wisely.
“The true price of anything you do is the amount of time you exchange for it.” Henry David Thoreau
