Trusting God in a Whiteout
The Journey Begins
I, along with eleven other passengers, boarded a twin-engine plane en route to Katami National Park. I was seated in the very front seat, just about three feet away from the cockpit.
First Impressions
The first thing I observed was the wide array of screens on the instrument panel. The second thing I noticed was that the instrument panel was so high, I didn’t think the pilot could see over it. At first, I was concerned. How would she fly the plane if she couldn’t see? That thought sparked something in my mind: How much do we trust what we see instead of trusting the God who sees all and knows all?
Through the Clouds
Soon, we were going through a patch of clouds so thick and white that there was no visibility at all. I was instantly glad for the instrument panel. The pilot had to trust something other than herself to see us through.
Trusting in the Midst of Life's Storms
Isn’t that how life happens to us? Things are going smoothly, and we begin to think we have things figured out. We trust our feelings. We trust what we can see. And then, life sends us a “white out.” We can’t see our path forward and realize we need help. Once again, we realize we can’t make it on our own. It is then we cry out to a God we cannot see, but who sees all, to guide us.
Seek God Before the Storms
Let’s not wait until we are in a white out to seek God. Of course, He will answer us if we wait until things are falling apart, but maybe if we seek Him early, we can avoid the white outs. And even if we don’t, we have the confidence of knowing He has us and is guiding us every step of the way.
