What Lens Do You View Life Through?

What Lens Do You View Life Through?

What lens do you use to view life? Have you ever stopped to consider how your perspective shapes the way you see yourself, others, and the world around you?

The lens we choose to look through matters. It influences how we approach challenges, build relationships, and navigate everyday life. For many of us, it’s easy to default to lenses shaped by unresolved pain, past disappointments, or unmet expectations. But are these the lenses we truly want to use?

The lens of unresolved pain distorts our view, making it hard to see clearly. It may lead us to assume the worst about others, expect failure, or feel trapped by fear. But as Christians, we’re called to a different perspective. In John 1:14, Jesus is described as being “full of grace and truth.” What if we began to view life through the lens of grace and truth?

Grace allows us to see ourselves and others as God sees us—not defined by our mistakes, shortcomings, or past pain but as beloved and valued. Truth helps us to align our perspective with God’s Word, seeing our circumstances through the lens of His promises. Together, grace and truth create a balanced, hope-filled view of life.

When we look through the lens of grace, we extend compassion, forgiveness, and understanding to those around us. We choose to believe the best about others, even when it’s hard. The lens of truth reminds us of God’s promises: that we are more than conquerors (Romans 8:37), that His plans for us are good (Jeremiah 29:11), and that He works all things for the good of those who love Him (Romans 8:28).

Changing our lens isn’t always easy. It requires intentionality and prayer. It means asking God to heal the unresolved pain that clouds our vision and to replace it with His clarity. It’s a daily practice of surrendering our limited perspective and trusting Him to guide us.

Take a moment to consider:

The lens of a victim or a victor?

The lens of defeat or confidence?

The lens of lack or abundance?

The lens of suspicion or trust?

These perspectives impact how we engage with others, how we handle struggles, and how we walk in faith. But as Christians, we are called to a different lens—a lens of grace and truth.

So, what lens do you want to view life through? Choose grace instead of judgment. Truth instead of lies. Victory instead of defeat. Abundance instead of lack. Trust instead of suspicion.

The choice of your lens can transform not only how you see life but how you experience it. Ask God to help you see the world through His eyes—a view filled with hope, purpose, and love.
